Anse La Raie is a nice spot suitable for beginners to expert kitesurfers. This spot offers you flat water to learn and waves for those with some more experience.

  • North East Coast of Mauritius
Best time to go
  • “Works” almost all year round
  • The best months are between June and October
  • Clean water
  • Many corals at the beach and at the bottom of the sea
  • The bottom of the sea have many rocks and urchins
  • When you enter the water at the main spot, there is a very narrow channel of sand, which has been created by the locals to access the water without stepping on stones

  • Summer: 25 to 28 °C
  • Winter: 23 to 25 °C
  • Main direction is South East
  • On and Side on shore
  • 12 – 18 knots
Kite size
  • 9 to 12 m²
  • The waves you will find in the reef, maybe 1 or 2 km from the coast, with waves of 0.5 to 2 meters you will surely have lot of fun
  • It is more suitable for experienced kitesurfers as they are very shallow waves breaking on coral

  • Many rocks, fragile and sharp corals and urchins at the bottom of the sea
  • With Low Tide, it can get tricky with the rocks

  • If you are looking for waves, you will find them in the reef, but be careful, this reef  is not visible from the coast
  • Always beware when approaching channels and passes, the current can be very strong
  • You have public toilets
  • You have a kiteschool directly on the beach, they have showers and toilets
  • Sometimes ice cream vans
Additional infos
  • Some of the Kiteschools teach in this spot, but there are many stones, the path to the water can be a bit dangerous and normally beginners launch their kites in the water
  • The lagoon stretches 3 km until it reaches the reef that forms a barrier to the open sea and extends up to 20 km down the East coast making it the ideal place to experience some of the best downwinders and excursions
