Some of the typical dishes of the Dominican

In any restaurant you can taste these delicious dishes.

  • Sancocho: It is the most popular and representative dish of Dominican cuisine. It is a soup prepared normally with beef mixed with rice, cassava, potato, yucca, yautia, banana, coriander, avocado, etc.
  • Bandera: This dish is in every Dominican table. It consists of white rice, beans and meat, accompanied with salad or fried banana
  • Moro con Coco: It is a mixture of beans, rice and stewed meat with coconut milk and guandules (beans). Also the moro can be made with codfish
  • Locrio: A classic plate and is similar to the Spanish paella. This delicious rice can be combined with shrimp, prawns, sardines, cod, chicken, pork, chops, ham and anything you want
  • Asopao: It is an exquisite soup of rice, chicken, tomato, avocado and coriander
  • Pica Pollo: These are fried chicken pieces. Do not forget to try the Pica Pollo with a good beer and accompanied by tostones!
  • Tostones: Fried slices of green banana. They are a fundamental complement in Dominican cuisine
  • Yaniqueques: It is another typical appetizer of the country. It’s like a wheat flour cake, cooked with baking soda, water and salt
  • Bollitos de Yuca: They are balls made of striped yucca, seasoned with salt, butter and anise, stuffed with cheese, chicken, vegetables or seafood and fried in the pan
  • Empanadas: It is a fried flour stuffed with cheese and ham, a mixture of vegetables, egg or minced meat. It is taken as a small snack in the afternoon, although you can also take it for breakfast
  • Desserts: Dulce de Leche, Dulce de Coco, Majarete, Dominican cake, Golfio and many more that are delicious
